The Standard, Singapore, makes quite the statement as I step through its gleaming lenticular facade, a bold design that encapsulates both modernity and a touch of whimsy. It is as if this hotel has pulled back the curtain to showcase an extravagant playground where the glamorous mingle under the tropical sun.

VIBRANT ELEGANCE AWAITS

My temporary abode, the Standard King room, unfurls before me like a vision in vibrant hues and inventive design. The floor-to-ceiling windows bestow upon me a snapshot of serene poolside tranquillity, while a dramatic timber-ribbed canopy stretches from the bedhead to the ceiling above, creating a cave-like embrace. The decor bristles with lively contrasts, featuring sharp, clean lines counterpoised by splashes of yolk-yellow and gleaming white tiles in the bathroom—a fun, punchy homage to tropical chic. Upon entering, my eyes feast upon a shiny red lips sculpture delicately placed on my pillow. It has quirky tokens like this, alongside the whimsically designed waffle robe—sporting armhole cut-outs, reflecting the genius of designer Shone Puipia.
