Brighten your space for the new season with these quick and easy DIYs
-
Get ready for summer in a flash with our top DIY ideas for your home and garden. You can complete one or two of these tasks in just a single weekend and we've made sure they won't cost the earth, either!
1 Curate a mirror wall
Mirror walls are an excellent way to bounce light around your home, especially in a hallway where they can make the space feel even larger. Try combining one or two statement buys with a mix of secondhand purchases for a curated display.
Make sure you aren't going to drill into electrical cables by using a wall scanner or detector - this will help you to find out what's in the walls before you get going. If you have plasterboard walls, you can use these devices to find the 'studs' - these are the strongest parts of your wall and the best place to hang mirrors from. Whatever your wall is made from, use heavy-duty wall anchors for peace of mind.
2 Bring colour to the bedroomSwapping your bedsheets is a simple way to welcome bright and breezy colours for summer. But this doesn't necessarily mean you need brand new ones... instead, why not dye the ones you have? White bedsheets are a great starting point, but you can also use a colour remover laundry treatment first if you need to. Make sure the dye you pick is suitable for your fabric type. Your bedding will either be made from synthetics or natural materials so choose the most appropriate dye. If your bedding is a blend of both, go for the synthetic option. With large items like bedding, it's much easier to opt for a dye that can be placed in the washing machine - and so much less messy! If you'd rather take a more hands-on approach and try out tie-dye or ombré effects, create a dye bath in your kitchen sink, or even a large bucket.
