March 2025 - May 2025

Clutter and odours aren't your only concerns. An open kitchen needs to blend seamlessly with your home to avoid becoming a reno regret.

THAT FLOWS WITH YOUR HOME

Gone are the days of boxed-in cooking spaces. From BTOs to luxury condos, open-concept kitchens have become a standard fixture in Singapore’s small homes. But while these spaces promise an illusion of space, effortless entertaining, and a chance to flex your culinary skills in full view of your guests, reality often tells a different story.

Between your morning kopi ritual and evening dinner prep, an open kitchen can quickly turn into an eyesore. How do you make sure it blends seamlessly into your home at all times? Check out these tips to design an open kitchen that enhances—rather than hijacks—your home’s sense of flow.

1. Choose a layout that works for your space

Your open kitchen’s success hinges on its layout. If space is on your side, a kitchen island is the ultimate multitasker—it’s a prep station, a casual dining spot, and a natural gathering point. For more compact homes, a peninsula offers similar perks while maximising every square metre. You could even incorporate a dining table for a seamless transition.

Torn between the two? A mobile island might be your answer, offering flexibility without permanence. Whatever you choose, remember the golden rule: maintain at least one metre of clearance space for ease of movement and safety—you don’t want to be bumping into things while carrying hot soup.

Pro-tip: Upgrade your kitchen with Caesarstone Quartz—a stain-free, heat- and scratch-resistant benchtop that’s as stylish as it is sturdy.

2. Keep visual noise to a minimum
