Jo leGleud and Scott Maddux of interior design studio Maddux Creative have subtly reworked a city-centre pied-à-terre using elegant colours, opulent materials and pleasing symmetry to bring it back to its glamorous 1920s heyday

LINES OF BEAUTY

Some homes are so intrinsically beautiful and beguiling that the question, 'What made you want to buy it?' seems redundant. It would probably be more appropriate to ask, "Why wouldn't anyone want to snap up a gorgeous property like this?" - budget and location permitting, of course.

The owners of this apartment felt exactly that, being smitten with the 1920s bolthole that still reflected the grandeur and glamour of its art-deco origins. It was one of those rare finds,' says Jo leGleud, co-founder with Scott Maddux of Maddux Creative, who were brought in to help tackle the refurbishment. 'It met all their requirements for a pied-à-terre. It had original features and a bit of history, but they could make it their own. Plus, the location meant they could just step outside to walk to dinner. For the couple, who are based on the West Coast of America, its location means they can also easily take trips over to Europe.

RAISE THE BAR

A custom bar area helps to set the tone and atmosphere when entertaining by allowing guests to congregate in one area and connect with each other. In this project designed by US design studio Alana Marie Interiors, the custom walnut bar also doubles as a privacy screen, helping to zone the space in a practical and elegant way. The slatted panels create beautiful storage nooks for glassware and bar accessories, demonstrating how form and function can be seamlessly integrated.
