Home to the founder of a cult accessories label, this apartment was always going to be super stylish
LIVING ROOM
'I didn't want to see a TV, so I designed a floor-toceiling cabinet using wooden rods to conceal it,' says homeowner Elza Wandler (opposite, with husband Joost Doeswijk).

Although fashion designer Elza Wandler’s Amsterdam home took only three months to renovate, the thinking behind it had been incubating since at least 2017, when she first launched her sleek, sculptural handbag label, Wandler. With a love of aesthetics that ranges far beyond accessory design, Elza has, in that time, created strong networks with artists with whom she wanted to collaborate, and applied her creative eye to designing interior spaces to host her pieces — showrooms, pop-up shops, events and so on ~ all the while honing her design vision. So after Elza and her husband, Joost Doeswijk, bought their two-storey home, just outside the historic canal ring of Amsterdam, she was quite ready to make her distinctive mark on the place.
DINING AREA 'I found the marble as leftover pieces at a marble factory. The dark brown is very powerful, which I love,' says Elza. 'I like to play with textures, like fabric, glass, stone and wood. It makes everything more eclectic.'

RAISE THE BAR
A custom bar area helps to set the tone and atmosphere when entertaining by allowing guests to congregate in one area and connect with each other. In this project designed by US design studio Alana Marie Interiors, the custom walnut bar also doubles as a privacy screen, helping to zone the space in a practical and elegant way. The slatted panels create beautiful storage nooks for glassware and bar accessories, demonstrating how form and function can be seamlessly integrated.
