Bold hues are the main players in this house, but the clever – and social – layout is just as impressive

SEATING AREA

'We wanted to create a cosy corner overlooking the garden to have a drink or read a good book,' says designer Roelfien Vos. 'The beautiful botanical pattern of the fabric connects this space to the outside, creating a wonderful place to unwind with an indoor/outdoor feel.'

The tabletop is made from semi-precious stone slabs,’ says Roelfien. ‘The leftover dust was mixed with gold powder to fill the gaps between stones. Because the table has a cool feel, we paired it with a warm brass base and pink rounded chairs that embrace you. The plaster hue on the ceiling works beautifully with the chairs.’

THE DESIGNER

This detached townhouse, near the coast in south Holland, is home to a family of five. Their love of colour led them to interior designer Roelfien Vos, who worked with them on the reconfiguration.

THE PROPERTY

The house was built in the 1930s. On the ground floor is a hallway with a cloakroom, leading to an open-plan kitchen, dining area and living space, plus a utility room. There is also a wine cellar. The first floor houses three bedrooms, a bathroom/dressing room and cloakroom. The second floor, previously an attic, is a self-contained apartment for the eldest son, including a living room, kitchen, en-suite bedroom, dressing room and cloakroom.
