Cut water bills in half

Fancy a £10 DIY hack that could save you up to £200 on your water bill? Install a tap aerator. 'An aerator fits onto the end of a tap or spout, and works by incorporating air into the flow of water, which reduces the amount of water passing from the tap,' explains Jess Thomas, managing director of Drainage Central. 'It separates the flow of water into several smaller streams that are surrounded by air, meaning that there is less space for water to pass through, but the air means you cannot feel any reduction in water pressure.' It can potentially reduce the flow of water from a tap by ten litres per minute. They're easy to fit, too - just screw it to your tap spout and twist until it doesn't tighten any more. 'It's estimated that tap aerators can reduce your water consumption by up to 50% in some cases. This can mean a potential saving of £224 a year,' adds Jess.
