Maximalism has long held a place in interior design, and its charming over-the-top whimsy and showstopping credentials continue to enchant

MAXIMALISM as a design movement is very much in vogue. While maximalist interiors may often appear busy at first glance, a knowledgeable and experienced hand ensures the difference between a curated and a cluttered room.
In his new book More is More is More, Carl Dellatore showcases maxi interiors and the expression of such eclectic creativity. Here we step into this world of excess with five designers’ aesthetic visions.
1 SURFACES
A touch of theatricality goes a long way in maximalist interiors. Not every surface should be over the top – it’s about balance, with some surfaces receding and others taking centre stage. In this North Carolina home, the comparatively calm stone-effect wallcovering allows the floor and ceiling to shine out and the scenic mural on the far wall to draw your eye through. ‘The resulting effect is whimsical, timeless, fresh, and inviting.’ MADCAP COTTAGE
