|August/September 2025
Personalize your windows with handmade curtain rods for a custom look at an affordable price
-
Framing your windows with the right curtains can pull a whole room together. And while fabric and length matter, curtain rods also play a key role in the overall style. Since window treatments can get expensive, we'll show you how to make your own rods for a personalized finish that looks great and saves you money.
1 MAKE THE BRACKETSUse wood glue and brad nails to assemble two L-shaped brackets from the top caps (A) and back legs (B). For rods over 4 ft. or for heavy curtains, make a third (center) bracket to prevent sagging.
2 MAKE THE RINGS
Use a 2⅛-in. hole saw in a drill press to cut a circle from 1x3 material for each bracket, placing a sacrificial board underneath to prevent blowout.
