Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD), also known as Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC), is a rare and potentially life-threatening heart condition characterized by the replacement of normal heart muscle tissue with fatty or fibrous tissue in the right ventricle.

Insights into Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD)

ARVD is considered a rare disease, with prevalence estimates ranging from 1 in 2,000 to 1 in 5,000 individuals worldwide. However, due to underdiagnosis and variability in clinical presentation, the true prevalence may be higher. Additionally, ARVD tends to affect men more frequently than women.

Causes of ARVD: The exact cause of ARVD is not fully understood, but it is believed to have a genetic component, with mutations in certain genes associated with the condition. These genes are involved in the structure and function of cardiac muscle cells, and mutations can lead to abnormal cell-to-cell adhesion and increased susceptibility to damage. Environmental factors and triggers may also play a role in the development and progression of ARVD.
