A Holistic Guide to Bloating Relief

- Dr. Chalapathy

Bloated and Bothered?

Feeling bloated and uncomfortable can significantly impact your daily life. This common digestive issue often leaves people feeling sluggish, self-conscious, and frustrated.

Bloating, characterized by a swollen or distended abdomen, can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  • Excess Gas: The accumulation of gas in the digestive tract can lead to bloating. Common culprits include swallowing air while eating or drinking, certain foods, and bacterial overgrowth.

  • Constipation: When waste remains in the colon for an extended period, it can contribute to bloating and discomfort.

  • Food Intolerance or Sensitivity: Some individuals may experience bloating due to sensitivities or intolerances to certain foods, such as lactose, gluten, or FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols).

  • Medical Conditions: Underlying health conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroparesis, or ovarian cysts can also contribute to bloating.

Common Symptoms

In addition to a swollen abdomen, other symptoms of bloating may include:

  • Pain or discomfort in the abdomen

  • Feeling full or bloated after eating small amounts

  • Excessive belching or flatulence

  • Constipation or diarrhea
