BETWEEN Newbury and Andover, in unspoilt Hampshire downland, escarped woodland and open cornfields lies the pretty, privately owned village of Faccombe. Here may be found The Jack Russell Inn with its 11 superbly appointed bedrooms, panelled bar, elegant dining with spacious seating and gardens, and decor reminiscent of the Travellers Club in London. This is no ordinary 'gastropub' but a deeply civilised and tranquil destination for those who come from all over Europe and the US to shoot, fish, walk The Ridgeway, go racing at Newbury or shop for antiques at Hungerford. It is also popular with Hampshire residents to stay and celebrate a special occasion; a private dining room can seat up to 18, with an open fire and the comfort of sofas and armchairs close at hand.
