Getting the most from your time in _ Se the field is key for Tizi McPherson

Tizi McPherson’s objective is simple: to help his clients get the very most from their time in the field. But he’s quick to point out that improving a person’s shooting ability is just one part of that. “Helping people who go game shooting understand what they’re participating in is a huge thing for me,” he explains as I catch up with him between lessons. “It’s not just about safety and shooting well, it’s about actually understanding the bigger picture: the land management; the role of the keepers, beaters and pickers-up on a shoot day; the whole cycle from egg to mature bird — whether that is a grouse or a reared pheasant.”
Having run the shoot on his family’s farm in Gloucestershire when he was younger, and with experience as a grouse keeper in the Highlands under his belt, Tizi is well placed to offer his clients that bit more. His coaching style, meanwhile, was honed during the 17 years he spent working at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School, where he also built the esteemed reputation that would set him in such good stead for when he decided to go it alone, seven years ago.
