POCSO ACT, 2012 Used or Misused ???

The POCSO [Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences] Act of 2012 came about with an honest intent to protect children of either gender under the age of 18 years.

In the first place the POCSO Act was enacted to curb the increasing sexual offenses against children below the age of 18 years. It was also meant to provide a detailed and conclusive legal framework to the children who were victimised and also safeguard and protect any such offence. This Act also provides for a very child-friendly approach to adjudicate the cases. Before the POCSO was enacted there were no specific and dedicated laws for prevention and handling of the offences towards children. Basic laws such as IPC were the only enactment. Hence the POCSO Act came as a great respite for criminalizing these sexual offences against the children.
