Bralettes, corsets and mermaid skirts emerge as the new must-haves when it comes to wedding dressing

- Manish Mishra

Bridal Trends, 2024 Edition

Today's well-travelled and style-savvy brides and their entourage of bridesmaids just want to have fun. Yes, they are rooted in tradition yet don't shy away from going for a little adventure and introducing fun new elements to their bridal look. Gen Z brides are more open to experimenting, seeking a contemporary aesthetic for their big day. Over the last couple of seasons, it's been hard to overlook the presence of itsy-bitsy bralettes, structured corsets and hourglass lehenga skirts in the ever-evolving bridal couture space. Designers Tarun Tahiliani, Manish Malhotra, Falguni and Shane Peacock and Rimzim Dadu have crafted playful and statement-making East meets West ensembles which allow today's fun-loving bride to embrace tradition while incorporating a modern twist. For young brides and their families keen to get on board this trend, it promises to not just elevate their overall appearance but also make a bold style statement.

Corsets & bralettes are the new cholis

The corset has always been a signature piece in Tahiliani’s bridal collections. Actor and Gen Z style icon Janhvi Kapoor was recently seen in a beaded corset styled with a mermaid-style skirt at the Ambani wedding. "The corset can be styled with a saree, lehenga, wide pants, jeans, or even under a jacket. To me, this is true sustainability—investing in something you love and can be worn in multiple ways, over and over again," says Tahiliani.
