Back in July 1955, Ruth Ellis became the last woman to be hanged in Britain when she was found guilty of killing her abusive lover David Blakely.

Now, almost 70 years on, ITV1's four-part drama A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story takes a fresh look at the controversial case, and begins as single mother Ruth (Lucy Boynton), who's running a London nightclub, meets racing driver David (Laurie Davidson).
