HOLLIDAY GRAINGER, DENISE GOUGH and AMBIKA MOD on how a sleepover turns into a nightmare in a twisty thriller

Vanishing ACT

Imagine if your child's first sleepover was actually a ploy for a terrifying abduction... This is the chilling premise of The Stolen Girl, a five-part psychological drama for Disney+ that explores every parent's worst nightmare.

From the producer of Happy Valley, the story is adapted from Alex Dahl's 2020 novel Playdate and follows private-jet cabin manager and mother of two Elisa Blix (played by Too Close star Denise Gough), whose high-flying life comes crashing down when her nine-year-old daughter, Lucia, begs to go for an impromptu sleepover at her new best friend Josie's house.

Josie's charming mum, Rebecca Walsh (Strike's Holliday Grainger), seems trustworthy when Elisa meets her at the school gates. Plus, Elisa is seriously impressed by Rebecca's stunning home in the Cheshire suburbs when she drops off Lucia's bag.

But when Elisa can't get through to Rebecca's phone the next day and races to the house with her husband, Fred (Hard Sun's Jim Sturgess), the panicked parents discover it's a rental property and Rebecca, Josie and Lucia have all vanished.

As a frantic, Europe-wide search ensues, Elisa and Fred find themselves under intense scrutiny from the police and media, especially when investigative journalist Selma Desai (One Day's Ambika Mod) begins to dig into their lives, much to the frustration of the lead investigator on the case, DI Shona Sinclair (Ridley's Bronagh Waugh).

Is the Blix family hiding something? And as Rebecca's motives come to light, should Lucia remain hidden?

Here, Holliday, Denise and Ambika take us deeper into the mystery...
