REUNION

NEW MONDAY & TUESDAY, 9PM, BBC1 THRILLER (BOX SET, BBC iPLAYER)

On a sunny June day at a lavish former stately home in Sheffield, a gathering is getting under way for ex-pupils of a school for deaf children when tensions suddenly erupt due to the arrival of an unwelcome face...

TV Times has been invited to watch filming for BBC1's new revenge thriller Reunion, which is penned by deaf writer William Mager. The innovative four-parter features both deaf and hearing cast and crew, and combines British Sign Language (BSL), spoken English and subtitles.

The story centres on Daniel Brennan (Switch's Matthew Gurney), a deaf man who's been released from prison after serving 10 years for inexplicably killing his friend Ray Mokhtar (Ace Mahbaz). Daniel now wants to reconnect with his estranged daughter Carly (Rivals' Lara Peake), but, as we see in the scene being shot today, in which he interrupts the reunion, he is also on a vengeful mission to trace somebody from his past and confront a terrible truth.

Meanwhile, when Daniel encounters Ray's widow Christine (Bad Sisters' Anne-Marie Duff) and her deaf daughter Miri (ex-EastEnders actor Rose Ayling-Ellis), Christine wants answers about the murder. But her new boyfriend, ex-cop Stephen Renworth (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe's Eddie Marsan), is desperate to protect her at any cost, and turmoil ensues.

Here, the cast tell us what to expect from the groundbreaking project...
