NEW DRAMA

The Forsytes

Monday, 9pm, 5

The complicated lives of the wealthy Forsyte clan, whose rivalries and controversies cut a swathe through 19th-century high society, take centre stage once more in The Forsytes, 5's version of John Galsworthy's much-loved novels.

Following previous acclaimed adaptations in 1967, featuring Eric Porter and Nyree Dawn Porter, and in 2002 with Damian Lewis and Gina McKee, the new starry six-parter is penned by Poldark's Debbie Horsfield.

It opens in 1877 when keen artist Jolyon 'Jo' Forsyte Jr (Danny Griffin) is about to marry savvy widow Frances (Tuppence Middleton). Jo's father, Jolyon Forsyte Snr (Stephen Moyer), is chairman of the Forsytes' stockbroking business and his son looks set to eventually take over the firm.
