Sheridan Smith plays a grief-stricken mother who campaigns tirelessly to convict her daughter's killer
-
Last year's BAFTA-winning, fact-based TV series Mr Bates Vs the Post Office memorably dramatised one man's indefatigable fight for justice.
Now, another real-life legal battle is being brought to the small screen in the ITV1 drama I Fought the Law, about Ann Ming, a Teesside mother of three who campaigned tirelessly for her daughter's killer to be put behind bars.
In 1989, Ming's 22-year-old daughter, Julie Hogg, went missing.
Three months later, her body was found behind the bath panel in her home. The prime suspect in the case, William Dunlop, stood trial for Hogg's murder, only for two juries to fail to reach a verdict. He later confessed to the killing, but an 800-year-old 'double jeopardy' law prevented him from being tried twice for the same crime.
INDOMITABLE SPIRIT
However, Ming was determined to get justice for her daughter and embarked on a 15-year quest that saw her challenging the law of the land and even addressing the House of Lords.
