HORROR story

NEW CRIME DRAMA Wolf Monday & Tuesday, 9pm, BBC1 (box set, BBC iPlayer)

Past tragedy and present-day nightmares collide for a haunted cop in BBC1's disturbing, twist-laden thriller Wolf.

The six-part series, which has been adapted by Megan Gallagher from the acclaimed novels by the late Mo Hayder, centres on DI Jack Caffery (Ukweli Roach), who remains deeply troubled by the disappearance of his 10-year-old brother in the 1990s. Jack is convinced that a neighbour killed his sibling and he has been hell-bent on getting justice ever since.

'Jack is determined to solve the mystery of what happened to his brother because the impact of the disappearance has been huge, says Roach, 36, who has starred in The Midwich Cuckoos and Annika.

"That trauma has stunted Jack; he's blamed himself - it's unresolved and he's always had this tumult inside him. It has fuelled a desire to take revenge on bullies who target the weak and vulnerable and that's propelled him into a career in the police.

Meanwhile, in Monmouthshire, Wales, the wealthy AnchorFerrers clan - nervy mum Matilda (Juliet Stevenson), her businessman husband Oliver (Owen Teale) and their daughter Lucia (Annes Elwy) - have come back to their country home so that Oliver can recover from a heart operation.
