NEW DOCUMENTARY

Spy in the Ocean

Sunday, 7pm, BBC1

Back in 2017, BBC1’s Spy in the Wild broke new ground in wildlife programming with its realistic-looking animatronic ‘spy creatures’ that were deployed to infiltrate packs of animals, using tiny inbuilt cameras to capture a truly close-up picture of their daily lives.

Now, a brand-new collection of ingenious spies is being unleashed – and this time, they’re heading into the water.

Over the course of four episodes, Spy in the Ocean explores the incredible interactions that take place beneath the waves, offering a startling new perspective on the intelligence and emotional complexity of the species that live down in the depths.

TV&Satellite Week caught up with the makers of the series to find out more about the animatronic spies that serve as our eyes in the ocean…
