CRIMINAL intent

The latest offering from Guy Ritchie, director of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and The Gentlemen, is crime drama MobLand, a gritty gangland thriller that follows the fallout when two powerful London crime families go to war.

Hostilities commence after Eddie (Anson Boon), grandson of Irish crime kingpin Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan) and his wife Maeve (Dame Helen Mirren), goes on an ill-fated night out with Tommy, the son of Conrad's arch-rival in the drugs trade, Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell).

After Eddie is involved in a stabbing and returns home in bloodstained clothing, Tommy is nowhere to be found, and it's down to Conrad's ruthlessly efficient fixer Harry (Tom Hardy) to deal with Tommy's furious father as he tries to uncover what happened.

Meanwhile, Harry has family troubles of his own, as his wife Jan (Joanne Froggatt), concerned about the state of their marriage, urges him to agree to couples counselling. While Harry's gangland activities bring financial benefits, it's also quite a restricted existence for Jan, who is first seen going to a primal-therapy class.
