Captive heart

NEW DRAMA The Narrow Road to the Deep North Sunday, 9.15pm, BBC1 (box set, BBC iPlayer)

An Australian surgeon and war hero reflects on the moments that shaped his life - from the passion of first love to the brutality of his time in a prisoner-of-war camp in BBC1’s sweeping drama The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

The five-part series recounts the intimate story of Dorrigo Evans and is told over different timelines – prewar, during his wartime internment, and also in the 1980s, when he’s a renowned surgeon. Game of Thrones and Kin star Ciarán Hinds portrays Dorrigo in his later years, while Saltburn actor Jacob Elordi plays the character as the drama begins in 1940, when he meets and falls in love with Amy Mulvaney (Odessa Young), the young wife of his uncle Keith (The Mentalist star Simon Baker).
