Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell have each starred in some of the most iconic comedies of the past few decades, including Election and Legally Blonde for her and Elf and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy for him. So it’s no surprise that when they sit down together, the jokes fly. After Ferrell, 57, inquires about a cameo in the next Legally Blonde project, Witherspoon, 48, offers him a supporting role: “The part of the Chihuahua. Bruiser,” she quips. “The Chihuahua has passed. So I need a new support animal.”

Ahead of that potential pairing, Witherspoon—who shares daughter Ava, 25, and son Deacon, 21, with ex Ryan Phillippe and son Tennessee, 12, with ex Jim Toth—and Ferrell (dad to sons Magnus, 20, Mattias, 18, and Axel, 15, with wife Viveca Paulin) play rivals planning conflicting weddings in You’re Cordially Invited (on Prime Video Jan. 30). You worked together for the first time on Saturday Night Live when Reese hosted in 2001. What do you remember about the episode?
