Throughout his 30-year career, Peter Sarsgaard has played an array of characters, including villainous turns as a transphobic murderer in Boys Don’t Cry, a convict on death row on The Killing and an evil baron in The Magnificent Seven. But don’t be fooled by how expertly he tackles dark roles. Sarsgaard, 52, is a total softie who loves hanging out with his wife (actress and director Maggie Gyllenhaal, 46), their daughters and their dog, as well as tinkering in the garden, which is where he keeps his bees.
