HOW OBS UPPED THE GAME IN LIVE SPORTS PRODUCTION FOR PARIS 2024
Digital Studio
|August 2025
The live coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games marked a trailblazing milestone in sports broadcasting, led by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS).
-
As the host broadcaster for the Olympic Games, OBS was entrusted with the responsibility of delivering high-quality, comprehensive, and immersive coverage of all events and ceremonies to Media Rights Holders (MRHs) around the world. For Paris 2024, an ambitious vision had been set into motion, with new technologies and workflows being adopted to redefine how the Games were experienced globally.
There was a 7.8% increase in content produced in comparison to the Tokyo 2020 Games, and a greater focus was given to storytelling. This marked a new era for the live sports production, with the addition of enhanced behind-the-scenes content, cinematic visuals, and storytelling tools. This was all done under the philosophy of “more with less” which emphasized efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. This was in line with the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Agenda 2020+5. The Games reached 5 billion people globally, making Paris 2024 the most followed Olympic Games to date.
USE OF BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGIES
For the very first time were used across all sports and throughout all competition stages, in the Olympics, shallow depth of field cinematic lenses were lavishly. The experience of the Games was further transformed with Ultra High Definition (UHD) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) technologies, as sharper focus was placed on athletes and spectators, adding rich detail and vibrancy.
