The Inauguration of Ram Mandir:

The Sindhian

|

April - June 2024

a LANDMARK MOMENT IN INDIAN HISTORY

The Inauguration of Ram Mandir:

Our Ram Lalla will no longer live in a tent. Our Ram Lalla will stay in a magnificent temple," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his speech on January 22, at the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya. The PM’s speech echoed the sentiments of all the attendees as well as the millions of devotees who were glued to their TVs, eagerly waiting for a peek at the newly installed idol of Lord Rama.

The 51-inch idol of Lord Ram has all the 10 'Avatars' crafted on it and resonates with the innocence of the five-year-old Ram Lalla. The idol is made from 'shyamal' (dark) stone and crafted by artist Arun Yogiraj of Mysuru.

In the annals of India's history, few places evoke as much reverence and contention as the sacred land of Ayodhya. Nestled along the banks of the serene Sarayu River, this ancient town holds within its soil the echoes of millennia-old legends and the fervent prayers of millions. Yet, beneath its tranquil façade lies a turbulent tale of religious strife and communal discord, a narrative marred by bloodshed and violence in the name of faith. The town has, for centuries, been a focal point of Hindu pilgrimage and devotion as it is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama. However, during Mughal Emperor Babur’s reign in the 16th century, attempts were made at a religious wipeout, converting thousands of temples in the continent into mosques. This resulted in the construction of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. Ever since then, the city has been marked by communal tensions and conflicting claims by both Hindu and Muslim communities.
