Air Twister is an on-rails arcade shooter from Yu Suzuki, the legendary creator of Out Run, Virtua Fighter, and Shenmue. It’s a throwback to the classic arcade era of the 1980s and 1990s but, for all its positives, it ends up feeling frustratingly repetitive.

You play as Princess Arch, a flying superhero who must defeat an array of weird and wonderful aliens who are invading her home planet for some reason. We say ‘for some reason’ because there’s initially no exposition at all. Your character floats around the screen shooting enemies and dodging their projectiles in a kind of fantastical bullet hell-lite experience. It looks incredible and completely out-there.
