THE BELOVED FILM FRANCHISE CELEBRATES A MAJOR MILESTONE

TOY STORY

Some things just get better with age and Toy Story is certainly one of them.

Thirty years after it debuted in US cinemas on November 22, 1995, fans young and old have continued to watch the beloved animation. But the film – about pull-string cowboy sheriff toy Woody being cast aside by his owner, Andy, for a flashier space ranger action figure – wasn't always going to be the story we know and love.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on November 3, Tom Hanks, who voices Woody, opened up about the making of the iconic film to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release.

image“Actually, it was more than 30 years,” the 69-year-old revealed, “because Tim Allen and I and everybody involved, we recorded a Toy Story movie, about 80 minutes of it that was completely thrown out.”

Going on to explain that what was originally produced was a completely “different story” to the one eventually released, Hanks said that “it didn’t work” and they had to “start all over from scratch”. “It wasn’t Toy Story,” he shared.
