'She isn't Madeleine'

They've had to face more than their fair share of tragedy over the years, but that doesn't mean the anguish is over for the family of Madeleine McCann.

The missing girl's parents and siblings have been forced into a new legal nightmare by a woman who has been claiming to be their loved one.

Julia Wandelt is on trial for stalking Gerry and Kate McCann, accused of bombarding the couple with hundreds of phone calls and messages between June 2022 and February 2025. She is also alleged to have shown up at their home in the village of Rothley in Leicestershire in December 2024 to demand a DNA test. She was accompanied by Karen Spragg, a supporter she met online, who is also on trial.

Wandelt, a 24-year-old Polish woman, is convinced she is Madeleine. The McCanns' eldest daughter went missing in 2007 while the family was on holiday in Portugal when she was 3. No trace of her has been found since.

German authorities have named Christian Brückner as the prime suspect and stated they have “some evidence” that points to Maddie being deceased.
