THE BRITISH SINGER REFLECTS ON SEEKING TREATMENT FOR HER DAUGHTERS' SAKE

- Penelope Clifton

Lily Allen IT WASN'T EASY

Lily Allen is always honest with her fans and her update following her release from a trauma treatment facility last month was no different. It might have been her most heartfelt yet, too. She entered the undisclosed facility in January after news broke that she'd separated from her husband of four years.

"I went into a sort of treatment centre for a few weeks, which was great," Allen explained on a recent episode of her Miss Me? podcast with Miquita Oliver. "I did a lot of group therapy and some individual therapy. I needed some time and space away from everything. I did a lot of shadow work, lots of work about my inner child stuff."

The British singer sought treatment for the sake of her daughters, Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 12, who she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper. She and the girls relocated to New York from London when she married Harbour in 2020. In 2024, she'd joked that they'd "ruined" her career "in terms of pop stardom".

Fast-forward to now, and she clarified to Oliver that there was more to that offhanded admission. "I know people think I hate my children," she began. "I really don't. I absolutely adore my children. I'm in a situation now where I really have to be my strongest self for them. I felt like it was getting harder and harder for me to be able to show up for them in the way that they needed me to."
