On the very same day that Season 3 of The Diplomat dropped on Netflix, the show’s star Keri Russell was already busting to get cracking on Season 4.

I cannot wait. I’m so excited. Listen, I have so many friends, in California especially, who are actors who are not working,” she said during a SAG-AFTRA screening and Q&A with costar Rufus Sewell in Los Angeles on October 16.

“I am so thankful and grateful to be working right now, but it’s also a great f--king job,” she continued. “I am so grateful for this job, and I love it so much it’s my most favourite thing I’ve ever, ever done. I took the whole summer off, and I cannot wait to go back to work.”

Russell, 49, has been relishing her role as highly strung, messy-haired foreign-affairs expert Kate Wyler since 2023. “It’s such a smart show. It’s fun to play someone so smart, so funny, so fierce. She does stupid s--t all the time. It’s really such a sweet spot,” she gushed to People magazine.

I love how she is always getting herself into hot water. I mean, to lose in a drama as a character is good. To be constantly losing and messing things up, it's great."
