Stepping out for a previously unannounced engagement on January 14, the Princess of Wales made an emotional return to the place where she was treated for cancer last year.

While visiting patients and staff at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, Princess Catherine opened up about the toll that chemotherapy had taken on her.

"It's really tough, it's such a shock," the 43-year-old said. "Understanding that as a patient, yes there are side effects around treatment, but actually there are more long-term side effects." After revealing she had completed chemo in September, Kate further shared that she is in remission.

"As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal," she captioned a video of her visit to the hospital, of which she has become a joint patron alongside husband Prince William. "I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.
