THE ACTOR TAKES A STEP BACK AS HIS WIFE IS CELEBRATED FOR HER WORK

As an award-winning actor and filmmaker, George Clooney is used to being the centre of attention wherever he goes. But he was only too happy to step out of the spotlight recently to let his wife Amal shine.

The couple headed out dressed in their best in Venice on August 31 to attend the DVF Awards. And while it was Amal, 45, who was being honoured for her global work for victims of human rights abuses and for fighting to free journalists imprisoned for reporting on oppressive regimes, the British lawyer’s husband took up deserved real estate in her acceptance speech on the night.

“Venice is the place where almost nine years ago we were married. As we sailed through the city in the last two days, I thought how incredibly lucky I am, because somehow our incredibly different worlds collided one day, 10 years ago, in Lake Como,” she gushed. “I just think about the millions of things that had to happen in both of our lives to bring us to that moment, and how grateful I am for that luck.

“I just wanted to say, you, my love, like this city, take my breath away, and you make our lives magical,” Amal continued. “It is sometimes hard to believe you exist, so thank you for being the brightest light in my life.”
