At the 50th annual Country Music Awards on November 2, 2016, Beyoncé stunning in a plunging, sheer illusion gown-made an appearance on stage with the Dixie Chicks, now known as The Chicks. Backed by a big band and horn section for the six-minute jam session, the singers scored a standing ovation from the Nashville crowd for their heel-tapping rendition of Beyoncé's twangy single, 'Daddy Lessons'
For The Chicks, it was a hands-down highlight."Working with her was the single greatest working week of my professional life," singer Natalie Maines said in an interview with Howard Stern in 2020. "To see the power she has as a female, and a Black female... it was incredible."
Not everyone was a fan.
"I heard a woman in the row ahead of me yell, 'Get that Black b-h off the stage!"Tanner Davenport, co-director of the country outlet Black Opry, wrote in a March 29 essay for MSNBC.
Online, there was more abuse in the wake of the performance, including from country star
