Awards season is never straightforward, as the British version of the Oscars proved once again.

The British Academy Film Awards delivered wins to some outsiders, throwing open the race to the Academy Awards.

Arguably the biggest surprise was papal thriller Conclave taking out Best Film ahead of The Brutalist. Sentimental favourite Demi Moore, for The Substance, missed out on Best Actress to Mikey Madison, who secured it for Anora. None seemed more shocked than Madison herself, noting she didn't prepare an acceptance speech.
