While the name Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio might not mean anything to you, chances are you're as obsessed as the rest of us are with his alter ego: Bad Bunny. Since bursting onto the airwaves in 2016, the Spanish-language rapper has become one of the most successful Latin artists of all time, selling more than seven million records globally, winning 12 Latin Grammy Awards, three Grammy Awards and 16 Billboard Music Awards, and being named Billboard’s 2022 Artist of the Year.

Born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, the proud Latino is making his mark doing things his way. That means not releasing music in English, despite the demand for it.

“I am never going to [sing in English] just because someone says I need to do it to reach a certain audience,” he told Vanity Fair in 2023. “It’s not like I hate the idea... It’s just that I feel more comfortable in my own language. I think in Spanish, I feel in Spanish, I eat in Spanish, I sing in Spanish.”

After he sang a medley of tracks from his album Un Verano Sin Ti at the 2023 Grammy Awards, the performance went viral when the closed captions simply read, “Singing in non-English”. Addressing the controversy, he told
