STARS DESCEND ON THE CITY TO CELEBRATE THE LATEST IN CINEMA

George and Amal Clooney may reside just a short private plane ride away at Lake Como, but the pair certainly looked right at home on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival.

Attending the premiere for his new film, Jay Kelly, in Italy's famed floating city on August 28, the actor, 64, looked sharp in a black tuxedo as he worked the event like a pro.

Meanwhile, his stunning wife, 47, was the belle of the ball in a fabulous fuchsia gown.

Their attendance at the 82nd annual event was likely a relief to organisers, after the actor was forced to back out of several other appearances in the days prior due to health issues. Clooney had arrived in Venice on August 26, only to be struck down by a "bad" sinus infection, according to a representative for the star. Under strict "doctor's orders" to head straight back to his hotel to rest up, Clooney missed both a press conference for the film and a dinner with fellow castmates.

"Even movie stars get sick," the film's director, Noah Baumbach, quipped at the press conference.
