More than 12,000 homes,businesses, schools and other structures have been destroyed by the fires that began their wind-fueled destruction Jan. 7.

The Oscar winner was philosophical after losing his Pacific Palisades home to the flames that displaced at least 180,000 people in Los Angeles County. “As we struggle to heal from the devastation of these fires,” the 87-year-old posted to his 5.4 million Instagram followers, “it’s important we remember that the only thing we take with us is the love we give.”
