'THERE IS SO MUCH LOVE' JADA PINKETT SMITH OPENS UP TO HELLO! ABOUT FAMILY AND FINDING HERSELF AS THE WORLD REACTS TO HER BOMBSHELL MEMOIR
Hello! Canada
|November 06, 2023 (Issue 894/895)
Jada Pinkett Smith has seen more than her share of drama over the past few years. There were endless whispers about her 25-year marriage to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Will Smith, which reached fever pitch in 2020, when August Alsina – a friend of their son Jaden – revealed he’d had an affair with her (Jada later addressed the rumours, saying she and Will were on a break).
And then, at last year’s Academy Awards, there was Will’s extreme reaction to an off-colour joke Chris Rock made about Jada’s hair loss, resulting in “the slap heard around the world.”
In her new memoir, Worthy, the 52-year-old actress sets the record straight, sharing her reaction to the Oscars incident (she initially thought it was a skit), dropping the bombshell that she and Will, 55, have been separated since 2016 and revealing that comedian Chris once asked her out.
But along with the headline-making revelations, her memoir does much heavier lifting. It charts Jada’s “intense journey” from lacking self-worth to feeling – as per the book’s title – worthy.
“I wish I’d had more stories that I could read that reflected what I was going through,” she tells Hello! Canada, “especially when I was in the teeth of certain aspects of my journey – to give me a bit of oxygen.”
GOLDEN COUPLE
On the surface, Jada has led a blessed life. She’s had an enviable acting career, starring in blockbusters like The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. She was half of a Hollywood super-couple, tying the knot with Will on New Year’s Eve 1997, before going on to have two children, Jaden, 25, and Willow, 22 (and co-parent Will’s son Trey, 30, from his first marriage).
