Walking hand in hand through the streets of St. Andrews in Scotland, Prince William and Kate Middleton begin their epic love story all over again as The Crown retells one of the greatest royal romances of the 21st century.
Viewers are introduced to Kate in the sixth and final season of Netflix’s hit series, which follows the blossoming relationship between the now-Prince and Princess of Wales.
In photos of scenes filmed around the university town where William and Kate, both 41, met and fell in love, actors Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy bear a strong resemblance to the young couple.
One shot shows the royal heir sitting on the steps of a lecture hall, glancing at his future wife as she walks past him, while later scenes depict them strolling through the rain with shopping bags before William kisses Kate’s forehead.
The pair met and became friends while they were both living in the same university residence and majoring in art history, which the prince dropped to take geography. They shared similar interests and hobbies and took morning swims together at a nearby hotel.
In their second year, William and Kate moved into an apartment with friends, and romance blossomed.
“When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her,” said William during the couple’s engagement interview in 2010, “and then I knew there was possibly something I wanted to explore there, but we ended up being friends for a while.
