David Beckham celebrates being knighted by the King - dressed in a suit inspired by His Majesty and designed by his wife, Lady Beckham

It was the pinnacle of his illustrious career, so it was only fitting that Sir David Beckham opted for a designer very close to his heart when it came to the outfit he wore to receive his knighthood last week.

Step forward the new Lady Beckham, who turned her fashion skills to her husband of 26 years, conjuring up her first tailored male suit for his big day. The three-piece outfit, he said, was inspired by the man who knighted him at Windsor Castle: the King.

Asked whether he managed to speak to His Majesty during the ceremony, the former England football captain said: “He was quite impressed by my suit. He’s the most elegantly dressed man I know, so he’s inspired quite a few of my looks over the years, and he definitely inspired this look.

“It was something that my wife made for me. I looked at old pictures of him when he was quite young, in morning suits, and I was like: ‘OK, that’s what I want to wear.’ So I gave it to my wife and she did it.”
