Meryl Streep meets Dame Anna Wintour as she films scenes at Dolce & Gabbana's Milan show

- LAURA CRAIK

THE DEVIL WEARS DOLCE

She famously played Miranda Priestly, the fictional version of Dame Anna Wintour, in The Devil Wears Prada.

So it was a surreal thrill to see Meryl Streep sitting in the front row at Milan Fashion Week's Dolce & Gabbana show, flanked by her costar Stanley Tucci, who plays Nigel Kipling, and Simone Ashley, who has joined the original cast for next year's sequel. At one point, Meryl even came face to face with the woman she portrayed in the 2006 film.

Would it be a case of handbags at dawn, or hugs? Happily, it was the latter, with the two legends warmly greeting each other as the actress proved that the devil also wears Dolce in a glossy beige, patent leather trench coat, while Anna wore a floral dress. Let's hope that Meryl, in keeping with her onscreen alter ego, refrained from uttering one of her most famous lines: "Florals for spring? Groundbreaking."
