The Princess Royal is delighted to join riders marking a time-honoured tradition in Edinburgh
Her passion for all things equine is well-known.
Indeed, the Princess Royal was brought up with an all-encompassing love of horses, once saying: “I don’t ever remember not riding.”
That should explain the bright smile that was seen on her face as she took part in the annual Edinburgh Riding of the Marches in the Scottish capital. Princess Anne beamed with happiness as she and her fellow participants were greeted by thousands of spectators as they navigated the 26-mile route, a reenactment of an ancient civic tradition whereby the city's boundaries were inspected on horseback to make sure they were secure from attack.
