The Brutalist star Felicity Jones on her intense role, love scenes with Adrien Brody – and the importance of her wig

- ADAM STONE

HOW TO BE A STRONG WOMAN

Epic period drama The Brutalist was feted at the Golden Globes, received nine Bafta Award nominations and could sweep the board at the Oscars.

For Felicity Jones, who stars in the acclaimed film alongside Adrien Brody, its success brings not only recognition but also a dazzling round of glitzy parties.

“I’m just trying to take it as it comes,” says the British actress, 41, who has a son and a daughter with her husband of seven years, film-maker Charles Guard.

“But it’s fun to dress up and get out for a while. I have two young children, so it’s not something I get to do a lot. I’m usually in bed by nine.”

In the film, Felicity plays Erzsébet, a Hungarian Jew who survives the Holocaust and emigrates to the US to be reunited with her husband László (Adrien), a visionary architect.

It is the latest in a long line of diverse roles she has played, in films ranging from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to The Theory of Everything. Here, she tells us about love scenes, writing letters and why a good wig is always a gift.

Felicity, you and Adrien have great chemistry. Did you enjoy working together?

“I loved it. I have always been a huge fan of his, so it was a dream come true to work with him. He is such a nuanced, subtle, emotional and brilliant actor.”
