From setting up operations in the middle of a pandemic to driving double-digit growth, Vice President Muthukumar A N tells The Retail Jeweller how his strategic focus on people, processes, and sub-brands has fuelled this accelerated journey.
In less than four years since its launch, Pothys Swarnamahal has emerged as one of South India's fastest-growing jewellery retailers, expanding to six large-format stores and recording consistent double-digit growth. At the heart of this trajectory is Muthukumar A N, Vice President, who joined before the first store opened and has since steered everything from operations to brand building. His role in shaping strategies, sub-brands, and community engagement has been central to translating vision into rapid growth.
You joined Pothys Swarnamahal even before its inception. What was your initial mandate and how has your role evolved?
I came on board in March 2021, before our first store opened in July. In fact, I was the very first employee, with employee number 001. Initially, my job was about execution—setting up the first store, creating operational systems, and hiring HODs. During those early days, I even sourced the complete silver inventory myself.
Over time, my role expanded from operations into strategy—covering brand building, product development, employee engagement, and customer acquisition. Today, I focus on positioning Pothys Swarnamahal as a people-centric and socially responsible brand.
How is Pothys Swarnamahal positioned in a cluttered market, and what steps are you taking to strengthen its presence?
