ROBOTS WITH A HEART

Born from compassion and engineering curiosity, Genrobotics is proving that technology can protect, empower, and restore dignity where it matters most.

ROBOTS WITH A HEART

When a group of young engineers in Kerala began experimenting with robotics, they were not driven by profit or prestige but by an unshakable belief that technology should serve humanity. What started as a fascination with exoskeletons and mechanical design soon turned into a mission to solve one of India's most painful social challenges: manual scavenging. Their early view of robotics never just about building machines, but about curiosity, creativity, and the desire to make a difference would eventually guide their most important invention.

For decades, sanitation workers across India have risked their lives entering manholes filled with toxic gases, a practice both dangerous and degrading. Everything changed for the Genrobotics team when they heard of a tragic accident in Kozhikode, where two sanitation workers and a local resident lost their lives while cleaning a manhole. The incident shook them deeply and inspired a simple but powerful question: why should anyone risk their life for a task that a machine can do safely? The founders still recall how this moment became a turning point in their journey.

That question became the seed for Genrobotics. Founded in 2017, the company's mission was clear: to use robotics to eliminate manual scavenging and make sanitation work completely human-safe. The result was Bandicoot, the world's first robotic manhole cleaner. As the team often says, the company itself was born from asking one defining question: why should anyone perform a task that technology can handle safely?
