By combining MERYT's European expertise in catalyst and adsorbent technologies with POLYSYS's industrial and business know-how, the partnership will build a strong foundation for genuine in-country value creation

POLYSYS, MERYT to establish GCC hub for catalysts and adsorbents

ABU Dhabi-based company POLYSYS Industries has made a strategic investment in MERYT Chemicals, the UAE arm of Spain-founded MERYT Catalysts and Innovation, a European specialist in advanced catalysts and adsorbents.

The partnership positions MERYT to serve GCC customers with stronger proximity, technical support, and future production capacity.

It also establishes Abu Dhabi as MERYT's regional hub to supply GCC refineries and chemical industries with advanced catalysts and adsorbents, by bringing proximity, responsive technical support, and reliable supply from the UAE.

Building on this commercial foundation, the partners plan to expand into local research and development and production capabilities, combining MERYT's European expertise in catalyst innovation with the UAE's dynamic industrial ecosystem to create sustainable, high-value manufacturing capacity in the GCC region, Dr Meritxell Vila-Fontes, CEO of MERYT Chemicals, and Mohamed Al Mheiri, Founder of POLYSYS, tell OGN energy magazine in an exclusive interview.

Below are excerpts from the interview:

Why has MERYT chosen the GCC, particularly the UAE, as its base for regional growth and innovation?

Dr Vila-Fontes: For us, the GCC is one of the most exciting industrial regions in the world. We admire the pace and quality of growth across the Gulf. The region is ambitious, execution-oriented, and open to collaboration. Within this context, the UAE stands out for its clear industrial vision and pro-innovation policies, making it the natural long-term base for MERYT in the region.

Through MERYT Chemicals in Abu Dhabi, we aim to offer GCC clients faster response, stronger technical support, and localised production of advanced catalytic materials as capabilities are established. Saudi Arabia is also a key focus for us, and we are committed to supporting its industrial programs in close partnership.
