International Contracts Specialist - Oil & Gas, Africa, and the Middle East

Interview with ARVY NAHAR International Contracts Specialist - Oil & Gas, Africa, and the Middle East

Offshore Africa Magazine speaks to London-based oil and gas international contracts specialist Arvy Nahar on her journey into the energy, oil and gas sectors, as well as her exposure to mining in Ghana. She shares the details of her role in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

So how did it all begin?

I spent three years in Angola reviewing oil and gas focused contracts, across Africa and the Middle East, then moved to West Africa, Ghana for four years and after I finished working in Ghana, I acquired and managed my own alluvial gold mining site in Obuasi.

I then returned to the Middle East, Dubai, and worked with another oil and gas company where I played a major role in processing/reviewing their contracts and tenders. My choice of working in the industry was informed by a lot of factors. In terms of monetary value, the oil and gas sector is considered to be the biggest. It is a global powerhouse that sees a workforce of thousands of workers worldwide.

The level of exposure that comes with the sector is one I always wanted to have and looking back, I can confidently say that I made the right decision. I am currently based in London and West Africa and contracting for energy companies.

Define your role as a contracts specialist within the African continent (Oil and Gas)

As a contracts specialist for the oil and energy sector, my focus specific to Africa is premised on contractual, and commercial agreements, including the drafting of contracts and generation of variation orders to maximize profits.
